Portland is a PR machine for light rail & streetcar
Here are Some Facts About Portland Oregon
Cars are rated as “most needed” by 88% of Americans, higher than any other item.
Despite the recession and roller-coaster gas prices, the trend data confirm that
Americans’ dependence on the family car remains strong. Nearly nine-in-ten adults
(88%) rate an automobile as a necessity. That’s virtually identical to the 90% who
said the same in the 1973 Roper survey, and this proportion has hardly wavered in
surveys conducted throughout the 1980s and 1990s.
Despite the Pew Research Center’s obvious use of the prejudicial term “dependence”
in conjunction with cars, they found that Americans rated the car as the single most
needed among all “goods and services.” They also mentioned that this is consistent
with polls since 1973.
